Terketmedi Sevdan Beni (Anatolian Rock '70 in the Netherlands)
Muziek/Liedje van de dag | anatolian rock - Cem Karaca | 22 Oktober 2007 | 13:18:52
(mady by ercan)

by Cem Karaca

my simple (one guitar) practising, singing and playing :
download here (after clicking on the link below, you have to right click on the mp3 link there, and choose 'save target as .. ' on your desktop):
the guitar chords are re-defined by myself, because the chords for this song are nowhere to find on the net (this happens often with chords for the Turkish track's on the net, nobody wants to take the effort to write the chords for the 'bit' more difficult tracks.. Reason: Lazieness?! Damn right it is!)

TERKETMEDi SEVDAN BENi

What a track......... The improvisation with the drums, and the electro organ (?) in the beginning.. Then a moment of scilence. And then, his voice........... It's emitting something like;  typical Anatolian character, defining 'courage' and 'braveness', a great spirit in his voice!

At this moment I'm analysing the whole track (piece by piece; intsrument by instrument and play by play) it ain't that easy, but it ain't also impossible. Nothing is! :)

This track is a poem of Ahmed Arif.. Ahmed Arif is a poet in the line of the great Turkish poets as Nazim Hikmet, Orhan Veli, Oktay Rifat etc.. So far I know, Cem made 4 songs for Ahmed Arif's poems, these are: "33 kursun" (33 bullets), Ay Karanlik (the moon is dark), Aksam Erken Iner Maphushaneye (Evening falls quick in prison) and 'Terketmedi Sevdan Beni' (Your love didn't left me). Some of Ahmed Arif's poems are translated in English, so far as I know.. This poem 'terketmedi sevdan beni' I translated by myself, before I couldn't find on the internet...

Your love didn't left me..   (Terketmedi Sevdan Beni..)

I suffered without food and water
The night was terrible dark
Your love didn't left me...

Anyhow this soul is miserable,
This soul is silent.
This soul is torned, this soul is torned..
Your love didn't left me...

My hands are cuffed
I suffered; without cigarettes and sleep..
It didn't left.. It didn't left..
Your love didn't left me!!..

`EMRAH´
......................................... by  CEM KARACA   &  APAŞLAR  (1970)

Soon -within few months- we're going to cover a few Cem Karaca tracks, KALENDER and EMRAH to begin with.
Emrah is on request, specially for Hakan & Zuhal in London, England
Next month I will be in Istanbul, by the end of october I´m back and we will start wit the jammings.
We're planning Carel on the bass guitar, Deniz on the percussions / drums, Ferit vocals and solo's and me on the ryhtym guitar.. As new young member we have Kemal, ´beginner guitarist´ we believe he'll grow fast with the activities and experiences of ours! And of course we have still our great saz players Bùlent en Serdar they are ready to join whenever we need them.. Thanks guys!

Yesterday (friday 21 september 07) Ferit, Deniz were in Helmond. With our 3 western guitars we´ve tried ´Emrah´, our first verrrrryyy amateurly attempt. I tried to play the 'bass' parts (it sounds like Contrabass though!) with the upper 3 thick strings of western guitar. Deniz plays the chords and Ferit sings, with the solo in the mid-part.

listen here the try-out session;

download here try-out session        http://www.speedyshare.com/224406441.html
(click on link, then right-click on the music link and save target as ... on your desktop)

Don't mind this recording (it's just a 'try out!), but I'd think it has some of a (in my ears) lovesong, it sounds a little bit of a Bolero :) I'm enjoying so much playing this song...

Deriko
anatolian rock - Cem Karaca | 19 Juni 2007 | 11:45:07
Deriko (Derik Saçın Örmezler!)

A cheerful Turkish folk song, with little adjustments of our own..

Present day it's often played (with a faster rhythym) in Turkish weddings. Very good number for the Turkish dance called 'Halay'.   'Derik' is a song from South Eastern Turkey, province of Gaziantep..

When I studied in Leiden once, there was a Turkish bakery over there.. Owner of this bakery was also from Gaziantep. He told me that Gaziantep is also known for it's best delicacy named BAKLAVA, they call it "GAZIANTEP BAKLAVASI" (baklava from Gaziantep). Baklava is made all over Turkey, but these from Gaziantep, should be the best, he said.  Well, I remember that the Baklava he sold, was the best I ever had in the Netherlands! For this sweet stuff, the baker had flown over a delicacy-specialist all the way from Gaziantep..

Now I wonder, could it be that the girls from Gaziantep are also the sweetest?? :)

Deriko  (Derik Saçın Örmezler)

Lyrics:

Derik Saçın Örmezler            Derik they don't braid your hair
Seni De Bana Vermezler        Derik they would'nt give you to me
Deriko Kaşlar Kara                Deriko's brows are black
Deriko Gözler Ela Hey            Deriko's eyes are hazel, heyyy..

Derik Saçın İki Kat                Derik your hair is two layer
Kes Birini Bana Sat                Cut off one and sell to me
Deriko Kaşlar Kara                Deriko's brows are black
Deriko Gözler Ela Hey            Deriko's eyes are hazel, heyyy..

Kız Annenden İzin Al            Girl, ask your mother for permission
Bir Gece De Biz De Yat          And sleep one night at us
Deriko Kaşlar Kara                Deriko's brow's are black
Deriko Gözler Ela Hey           Deriko's eyes are hazel, heyyy..

Lümüne (Odam Kireç Tutmuyor)
anatolian rock - Cem Karaca | 11 Juni 2007 | 23:31:09
"LÜMÜNE" (Odam Kireç Tutmuyor)

sadece bir ilk deneme.. ilerki kisa zaman'da güzel çali$arak, hatalari elimizden geldigince
minimum'a indirip, akorlara zorlanarak degil de, önce bi ali$ip, sonra $arkiya konsantre olup, güzel bir $ekil'de söylemeye çali$acagim.. Yakinda,,,, (ne güzel bir türkü ama bu!)

"Odam Kireç Tutmuyor" is a very old Turkish song, wich I heard in many versions before.. Often played by Turkish saz (ancient Turkish instrument).

But after hearing this from Cem Karaca (version named: "LÜMÜNE") I fell in love with the song, and puzzled for a long time for the chords, like Cem's version... Nowhere to be found on the net. Also the rhythym was new,
[1-2][1-2-3-] - [1-2][1-2-3] - etc..

After all, found the chords and the rhythym by myself (it seems to be very simpel). Way too enthusiast as I was hereafter, tried this song the very next week with my 'saz' friend Bülent. So without practicing; this is the very very very first try and direct recording) Because we're amateurs, I'm very proud to be able to 'play' it like this (in this standards)..

Don't mind the voice and the soundquality please :) I will practise and rearrange this song, and record it in a better quality.. Soon..

====================================
LÜMÜNE (Odam Kireç Tutmuyor)     lyrics

Odam kireç tutmuyor             My room doesn't hold the caustic lime
Kumunu karmayinca..             If the sand isn't composited
Sevda ba$tan gitmiyor           Can't get the love out of the mind
Soyunup yatmayinca..            if not laying together undressed..

Odam kireçtir benim               My room is from liming
Yüzüm güleçtir benim             My face is always smiling
Soyunda gir yanima                 Undress and come beside me

Tenim ilaçtir benim..               My skin is a healthy medicine

Odama kireç eyle                    Come and lime my room
Gel bana ilaç eyle                    Come and be my medicine
Yandim a$kin elinden              I've burned myself on this love
Yüzümü güleç eyle..                Make my face smile again..
Yandim a$kin elinden,            I've burned myself on this love
Gel bana ilaç eyle..                 Come and be my medicine..

Oy lümüne, lümüne,                Oh Lümüne Lümüne *
Can lümüne, lümüne..             Dear Lümüne Lümüne..

//
writer: Satı Yeşil
region: Seyitgazi (Turkey)
* (Lümüne: don't know the meaning of this word.. Can't find it) - text is my own translation, possibly includes some mistakes...

Kireç = caustic lime from sand, wherefrom the most houses in Turkish villages are built. Mostly the man himself builts his own house, this songs uses this subjects 'love' and 'house' in a different / poetic way..

Anliyorsun Degil mi
anatolian rock - Baris Manço | 31 Maart 2007 | 20:48:06
 Anliyorsun Degil Mi
...............................................................  Baris Manço
covered by Gardaslar

instruments:
Flute/guitar (electro)          : ercan   (helmond)
Bass guitar                         : carel    (rotterdam)
12 string acoustic guitar      : deniz   (amsterdam)
Lead Vocal                          : ferit     (schiedam)

* video edit by:  ferit!  (thanks ferryy!)

it has been about 6 month's now, that we've recorded this cover. It was a day at me, and Carel brought his wonderful equipment all the way over (equipment wich made the transformation, of electro-guitar sound into  flute, possible!)  After a few try-outs of 'bin boga'nin kizi', we took a pause for a minute.. Just when it was silent................  I heard Deniz giving this rare rhthym on the 12string guitar... And he asked 'doesn't this sound like 'Anliyorsun Degil mi?'...........................  Hell right it does!

Suddenly I thaught -damn!- we also have this 'flute' sound right now, I've picked up the guitar quickly :)
As we tried, Carel made the sound adjustments (our technician!) and he puzzled the bass-line together.
Ferit joined with his voice.

Just in 10 minutes we launched this cover and recorded it.. I planned to make a simple video (photo-presentation) for this mp3, but it just didn't came off.. Meanwhile we went to Istanbul (a lot of photo's) and came back with Ferit, Deniz and Havva.. still no video.

Ferit decided to take over this video job (thank God!), collected the photo's and made this wonderful thing:))) Thanks Ferry!

PS:      --> Deniz..   (chilllll)

we love Anatolian Rock! (weblog: Ercan Şahin)
Muziek/Website | anatolian rock - Cem Karaca | 04 Maart 2007 | 00:05:45
Hello there!

After a beautifull vacation in Istanbul, after a lot of drinkings, playing music, shopping, sleeping, photographing, diner with Hakan Tuna (!) and last but not least: after a lot of thinking, I made a (very well considered) decision:

For some several personal reasons I decided to stop with the band-activities for a while. This decision was very hard to make. Just because my dear friends Ferit, Carel and Deniz, unlike me, were always motivated and inspired in making this kind of music (anatolian rock, in our own standarts). But right now, I believe that once again I made the circle round: by evaluating, - where did I started?- what was my purpose?- and -what did I achieved?-  Well, we achieved great things together! This resulted in some beautifull video recordings (few Cem Karaca covers), and not to forget: the original member of Apa$lar, the pianist from 1969;  Jacques Covo (Turkish known as Ceki Kovo) from Genéve commented our video's!! What a great honour for us. So, it was a beautifull chapter to look back on it.

From now on, I believe I need some time for myself, just to inspire myself againg.. There are already a lot of (very new and great) ideas in my head, as wel as a few (very important) shortcomings, all waiting to get handled. Meanwhile I hope the rest of my (Gardaslar) friends will also make use of this break, to prepare/inspire/upgrade themselfs. From here, wanna thank all of you who supported us, who listened to our tracks! :)
For now, with the best wishes!

Till we meet again!
Ercan.

Bin Boganin Kizi (intro)
Muziek/Clips | 16 December 2006 | 17:52:50

 Bin Boganin Kizi (intro)
                                                                           - Baris Manco & Mogollar
This song from Baris Manço & Mogollar came out in 1971,

the beautifull electro guitar solo, the typical (vox continental?) syntheseiser solo of Murat Ses thereafter makes this number a 'must-listen' for the Anatolian Rock lovers..

Today, 15 december 2006, we have several Cem Karaca covers and decided to switch over to Baris Manço and this evening: it's the VERY FIRST time we tried this number. No further preparings, no analyses before, we miss the essential instrument: syntheseiser (I tried to play that part with 12string guitar but, as you can hear, i must practise this first!)

Thanks to my friends, Carel Ferit Ahmet and Deniz who made this possible!!

In future, hopefully you listen to the Full version of this track by us:   GARDASLAR  ..
We're motivated to do this!!

Greetings,

lyrics
baba ocağından çıktım yıllar öncesi
bir gün kader karşıma çıkardı seni
bir göründün, bir yok oldun serap misali
dere tepe demem güzel, ararım seni

kurda kuşa akıl sordum dediler vazgeç
binboğa'nın kızıdır o, sana ne gerek?
bir göründün, bir yok oldun serap misali
dere tepe demem güzel, ararım seni

(elektro gitar solosu, ardından giren tipik bir murat ses klavyesi solosu...)

Kozan yaylasından geldim, Barış'tır adım..
bugün varsak yarın yoğuz, doğrudur sözüm!
bir gün elbet biter vadem, çağırır Tanrım!!
artık mahşer gününde ararım seni...!
